Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order, commissioned the building of the Chung Mei Buddhist Temple in 2001. As a part of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order which spreads the teachings of the Buddha on five continents, the temple serves as a center for the devotees to practice and propagate Humanistic Buddhism. Their efforts are guided by the four founding principles or Fo Guang Shan\u2019s Four Essences:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n To propagate Buddhist teachings through culture, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n To foster talents through education, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n To benefit society through charity, and <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n To purify human hearts and minds through Buddhist practices<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n As explained by the Venerable Master Hsing Yun, two of the objective<\/span><\/span><\/span>s for his temples are<\/span><\/span><\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n To <\/span><\/span><\/span>achieve<\/span><\/span><\/span> these objective<\/span><\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span><\/span>, Chung Mei Temple is located in Stafford, Texas, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>slightly removed from, but still within <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>the Houston metropolitan area. It enjoys the serenity and quietness of “the forest” <\/span><\/span><\/span>while<\/span><\/span><\/span> conveniently accessed by city visitors.
